PADI Assistant Instructor Course Duration: 3 - 14 days The Assistant Instructor rating is another step on the professional career path. This course is designed to teach you how to teach, as well as keeping your diving knowledge and diving skills at professional level. It will enable you to assist with any training activities conducted by a PADI instructor and allows you to teach and certify any non-diving specialties by yourself. The Assistant Instructor course also allows you, under the indirect supervision of A PADI instructor, present academic elaboration for any PADI course.
To take this course you have 2 options: Option A is conducted in conjunction with an IDC (Instructor Development Course). You will go through the same subjects and assignments as Instructor Candidates during an IDC. To gain the Assistant Instructor certification you will need to successfully complete the 5 theory exams and a Standards & Procedures exam at the end of the course. Most people choose this option to become familiar with the IDC, before they actually take the IDC.
Option B is the internship. You will go through some of the theory with your IDC Staff instructor, and also by the self-study/Knowledge Review method. You will assist on 3 PADI certification courses, getting hands on experience with 'real-life' students, in a way similar to the Dive Master course. The 5 theory exams and a Standards & Procedures exam will need to be completed before certification. Most people choose this option to get more experience in assisting, as they wish to work as Assistant Instructor before they go for the IDC.
After successful completion of the Assistant Instructor course you are able to take part in some of the instructor level courses. As an Assistant Instructor you will be able to conduct and certify the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy and Project AWARE Specialties.
